Joseph E. Quandt

Attorney Joseph E. (Joe) Quandt is a managing member at Kuhn Rogers, and concentrates his practice primarily on business law, real estate development, and environmental law. Much of his work involves mergers and acquisitions, often among companies in the utility, oil and gas or manufacturing industries.

While attending law school, Joe interned at the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (now Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy), which allowed him to gain a deep understanding of environmental compliance issues. Even before graduating with his law degree, Joe was involved with regulatory enforcement actions through the state Attorney General’s office. Early in his career, he worked in environmental regulatory and litigation defense, developing deep experience in all aspects of environmental law.

One of a small number of environmental law attorneys in Northern Michigan, Joe has written and lectured extensively regarding environmental law in the state, including co-authoring “The Michigan Environmental Law Desk Book,” the seminal treatise on Michigan environmental law published by the State Bar of Michigan. Joe also served on the Michigan State Bar Environmental Law Section Council as co-chair of the program, and on the Natural Resource committee. His background has uniquely equipped him to advise clients regarding environmental issues that affect real estate and business transactions.

Joe takes pride in helping clients find creative solutions to difficult legal problems. He enjoys practicing within a firm that has the sophistication and depth to take on complex legal matters such as those involving securities, secured transactions, and especially mergers and acquisitions. In addition to his transactional and litigation practice, Joe is also a certified facilitative mediator. In that capacity, he frequently helps parties to resolve business, real estate, environmental, oil and gas, and other civil matters. Joe was recently appointed to the United States District Court ADR/VFM Advisory Committee to recommend and establish policies related to Alternative Dispute Resolution and Voluntary Facilitative Mediation in the Western District of Michigan.

A sought-after speaker, Joe has made presentations regarding his areas of practice for the State Bar of Michigan and the Michigan Institute of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE). He also has a significant publication history in industry publications and treatises.

Joe has been nominated by his peers and listed in “The Best Lawyers in America” and “Michigan Super Lawyers” for over ten years. Joe also enjoys a ranking of “AV Preeminent” by Martindale Hubbell, and is a “Fellow” of the Michigan State Bar Foundation.
